TheSkyX Serious Astronomer Edition (Mac OS X or Windows) is a major update to TheSky6 Serious Astronomer Edition for Windows. Retooled from the ground up, Software Bisque has added a host of exciting new features.

Software Bisque TheSkyX Serious Astronomer Edition

Software Bisque's TheSkyX Serious Astronomer Edition can help you plan your observing sessions. It can control your go to (or push to) telescope. You can even print out star charts to share the wonders of night sky with your friends and family. It'll makes pursuing your passion for astronomy just plain fun. Mac or Windows? No problem. TheSkyX Serious Astronomer Edition runs lightning fast on your favorite operating system.

This is serious astronomy software... and it will make pursuing your passion for astronomy just plain fun.

TheSkyX Serious Astronomer Edition can help you plan your observing sessions. It can control your go to (or push to) telescope with ease. And, with optional TPoint Add On, your can improve your telescope's pointing accuracy just like professional observatories. You can even print out star charts to share the wonders of night sky with your friends and family.

TheSkyX Serious Astronomer Mac or Windows? No problem. TheSkyX Serious Astronomer Edition runs lightning fast on your favorite operating system. With optional TPoint telescope pointing analysis add-on, your can improve your telescope's pointing accuracy just like professional observatories. Cross Platform Support TheSkyX runs natively under either Macintosh OS X (Universal) or Microsoft Windows (XP/Vista) operating systems with improved support for running TheSkyX on multiple monitors. Graphics are rendered using OpenGL graphics acceleration to produce stunning displays with smooth animations. It's all be redesigned... with user interfaces including stacking windows, customizable and user-definable toolbars. On Windows, the only dependencies on any shared files (libraries/DLLs) is OpenGL and Windows OS-specific files. This reduces installation issues and conflicts with anti-virus software. Startup location is determined automatically from your computer’s IP address. (Using a database of over 25 million addresses that is updated monthly.) Application-specific settings (main window’s and all dialog window’s, and toolbar window’s size, position and visibility) are saved and restored automatically. (Including window positions, date, time, chart position.) Even the size of all dialogs can be changed to accommodate your preferences!

TheSkyX Serious AstronomerTheSkyX is loaded with tools like Iridium Flare Prediction, Object Paths, Time Skips, Solar and Lunar Eclipse Viewer, Conjunction Finder, 3D Solar System View, Field of View indicators (FOVIs), and much more... A new time calendar allows you to quickly view the phases of the moon for the current (or any) month or even make use of the new high-accuracy solar eclipse calculations for archeo-astronomy. Graphically show details about solar eclipses “above Earth”, including the moon’s shadow, lines for the central eclipse, regions of partial eclipses and local circumstances. Here you can show customizable sky gradients (background) with simulated clouds, meteors, meteor showers and shower radiants labeled by date. TheSkyX comes with animated tours that you can watch and learn basic concepts about astronomy. When is the next solar eclipse? Where it visible on Earth? You'll be able to answer these questions, learn about the dynamics of solar and lunar eclipses and more using the Solar and Lunar Eclipse Viewer. You can find Conjunctions with the Conjunction Finder, too! Select any 2 or 3 planets (or the Sun and Moon) to find the future conjunctions of these bodies and for each conjunction that is located, the Star Chart shows a green laser pointer to help you find it in the actual sky.

TheSkyX Serious AstronomerExplore what's around you by accessing information on millions of objects, including the planets, asteroids, comets and artificial satellites. Planets are rendered more realistically (OpenGL mode only) and you can even select one of six different constellation figures to suite your preferences, or to compare different sources: Astronomy Magazine, H.A. Rey, Patrick Moore, Sky & Telescope Magazine, TheSky Constellation Lines and Will Tirion. Do you want more? Then label the 88 constellations on the Sky Chart by: Abbreviation, Astronomical Name, Astronomical Name with pronunciation, Common Name, Genitive form, Genitive form and pronunciation. Still more? Then highlight the constellation boundary of the central constellation, show detailed constellation drawings and set the transparency and color. With The SkyX Serious Astronomer you can show individual constellation drawings, or any combination - such as only the constellations in the Zodiac, constellation drawings near the center of the screen or center selected constellations on the Sky Chart. Show the positions of up to 1000 comets, 1000 asteroids, and an unlimited number of satellites, too.

TheSkyX Serious AstronomerBe Creative! Print or export high-resolution sky charts to share with family and friends... even your website and astronomy club. Print Charts as scalable vector graphics or Portable Document Format and show all or individually show magnitude, symbol and chart status legends. Show a calendar of any month with the phases of the moon, as well as sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset, and Iridium Flare occurrences. A full year's calendar can be shown, too.. a calendar that can be saved (or exported) as a PDF file. Chart mode reformats the display to look more like what you would see in a book of star charts, or how a printed chart is going look. Print high-resolution star charts on your printer for field use! Sky Charts can be exported in portable network graphs (PNG) format, or saved in portable document format (PDF) for publication of charts and graphics to your astronomy club newsletter or web site.

TheSkyX Serious AstronomerNew Interior and Exterior! Virtually every feature has been redesigned to emphasize ease of use. If you're familiar with TheSky6 Serious Astronomer Edition, Software Bisque has made every effort to include every feature that is available in TheSky6 in TheSkyX. But, with improvements. Commonly used features (Tours, Find, Date and Time, Photos, Labels, Chart Elements, Chart Status windows) can appear as "stacked" windows, or floating windows, or docked individually on the left or right side of TheSkyX's main window. Improved, easier to select date and time input via the Date and Time toolbar and the Date and Time window. Real-time computation (up to 60 frames per second and higher with “decent” video hardware) and display of all objects. There's even an optional laser pointer which can be shown to aid locating objects on the Sky Chart (such as fast moving, faint satellites)!

TheSkyX Serious AstronomerEngage your mind and your equipment! TheSkyX is loaded with tools like Iridium Flare Prediction, Object Paths, Time Skips, Solar and Lunar Eclipse Viewer, Conjunction Finder, 3D Solar System View, Field of View indicators (FOVIs), and much more... Specify the viewing time, your optical aid (naked eye, binocular, or small telescope) and which objects you're interested in seeing and TheSkyX's What Up? command automatically generates an observing list for you, complete with detailed descriptions about many deep-space objects, photographs, and Hertzsprung-Russell (HR) diagrams for stars. Then, scroll through the report, and watch the star chart update to show you exactly where to look for the object! View and find the planets, dwarf planets, the Moon, comets, asteroids, satellites, and thousands of the most popular non-stellar objects from the Messier, NGC and IC catalogs and approximately 1 million stars from the Hipparcos-Tycho star catalog (complete to about 12th magnitude). Choose your equipment from a database of hundreds of telescopes, eyepieces and cameras or define your own, then show an overlay on the Sky Chart. View the positions of Jupiter's and Saturn's moons and intendify features on our own Moon by using the interactive Moon Photo Viewer!

TheSkyX Serious AstronomerExtreme Performance Screen refreshes as fast as your graphics hardware will allow. All photographs can be viewed from the Photo window, as thumbnails, or a separate Photo Viewer. View H/R Diagrams for all Hipparcos stars, or just the Hipparcos stars on the Sky Chart. The HR Diagram shows the position of the selected star on the diagram. Show or hide object labels for all object types and all labels types (labels for common names and detailed, customizable labels from the Labels tab on the Command Center. Turn on/off all labels from a single window and show fewer or more labels on the Sky Chart using the label density slider and using a normal font, or a smoothed (“anti-aliased”) OpenGL font that moves smoothly during animations. Improved photographic horizon display is faster too, and shows the horizon at all orientations and fields of view.

TheSkyX Serious AstronomerImproved Telescope Control Native telescope drivers with extensive driver support. The table in our "Additional Articles and Images" lists the "go to" and "push to" telescope models supported by TheSky6 Serious Astronomer Edition. For step-by-step setup instructions on how to setup and control telescopes with TheSkyX, see TheSkyX Serious Astronomer Edition User Guide. The optional TPoint Telescope Pointing Analysis Software Add On has been integrated as part of TheSkyX's telescope control. It's now easier than ever to collect mapping points, refine your mount's polar alignment, improve pointing using the world's most powerful telescope analysis software. Updated equipment database includes hundreds of cameras, eyepieces and telescopes! The look of the toolbar buttons can be customized by size and show/hide the command's text description below or to the right of the button's graphic and you can create user-defined toolbars or add commands to existing toolbars. The Object Information Report's time-related attributes (such as altitude, azimuth coordinates, hour angle, LST, Julian Date) are updated continuously.

TheSkyX Serious AstronomerTPoint Integrated Optional TPoint Add On is now completely integrated with TheSkyX. You wan to get there and finding objects in the night sky is difficult enough. The optional TPoint Add On to TheSkyX Serious Astronomer Edition is telescope analysis and pointing correction software that identifies, quantifies and automatically compensates for systematic errors in "go to" telescopes. It can also quantify the polar alignment of your equatorial mount, even when the celestial pole is not visible. Face it. Your fancy "goto" telescope doesn't always place objects in the eyepiece, or on your CCD detector. Why? Because every telescope suffers from inherent errors that degrade pointing accuracy. Even telescopes like the Keck, Gemini, and Anglo-Australian Observatory have less than perfect pointing. For years, professional astronomers at these and other observatories have relied on TPoint to improve the pointing of their telescopes. Now you too can join the ranks of the pros by employing TPoint to make your telescope point more accurately.
